Clissold House Wedding Photography
Maud & Michael

Some weddings you document. Some you just watch unfold and try to keep up. Maud and Michael’s day at Clissold House was the second kind.

/// Morning prep at the Rose + Crown

Maud and Michael got married on 12th of July at Clissold House in Stoke Newington. It was a warm summer Saturday, the kind where the park fills up early and the light goes golden by mid-afternoon. The wedding started at The Rose and Crown with morning prep, moved into the ceremony at Clissold House, and finished the evening at The Londesborough on Barbauld Road. Three venues, one neighbourhood, one very good day.

The 70s-influenced details ran through everything. Maud’s dress, the colour palette, the flowers. It was a wedding with a clear point of view, and that made every frame easier to shoot. /// The Ceremony and That Aisle Moment

The ceremony was led by celebrant Caroline Elizabeth Black and was exactly the kind of ceremony that makes the rest of the day easier. No stiffness. A reading from Maud’s young niece that stopped the room. And then the moment that tells you everything you need to know about a couple: Maud walking up the aisle, spotting Michael, and giving him a wave. Not a nervous smile. A wave. That was the whole day in one frame.

/// Portraits Behind Clissold House and Down Towards the Londesborough

After the ceremony we slipped out for portraits behind the house and walked down toward the Londesborough. Maud and Michael were relaxed and tactile the whole time, not performing for the camera, just being together. The flowers from Rebel and Wild Flowers caught the afternoon light well. It was one of those portrait sessions that takes care of itself.

/// The Speeches, the Cake, and the Evening at the Londesborough

Guests moved to The Londesborough pub on Barbauld Road for drinks, canapés and dinner. It’s an unassuming space that suited the day perfectly. No fuss. The speeches came next. Maud’s brother delivered something that had the whole room in tears from laughing. The cake from Luminary Bakery was cut at 7:45. First dance at 8. Late food at 9:30. The kind of evening where nobody checks the time.

/// Clissold House as a Wedding Venue

Clissold House is one of the most underrated wedding venues in North London. It sits inside Clissold Park in Stoke Newington, N16, and the combination of Georgian architecture and open parkland gives you real options as a photographer. The back of the house faces south, so afternoon light in summer is strong and directional. The park itself opens up a lot of space for portraits without feeling staged. You are not boxed into one backdrop.

The area around the house and down toward the Londesborough gives you a natural route for portraits that covers a lot of ground quickly. The venue suits couples who want something with character rather than a blank-canvas events space. It is East London without trying to be. If you are considering Clissold House for your wedding, it photographs well in almost any conditions, but July and August give you the most to work with.
